From Feb. 27-March 18, 2008, I had the honor to spend three weeks with 14 wonderful
high school students
from Colorado Springs School, Colorado, as guest artist for an
Experience Centered Seminar: Rock Art of the Region. After several days of in-house prepping,
we hit the road and spent two weeks visiting rock art sites of New Mexico and near El Paso, Texas.
We learned about the modern concerns from urban encroahment
to the difference between vandalism and historic
graffiti.
How to walk gently, feel the warming spring sun, see hawks float on soft breeze,
and heed the secret of the fairy shrimp.
Camping, hiking, sketching and journaling on site; these students know their stuff.
From coyotes howling all night to icy morning water bottles,
this trip was soooooo cool!
Oh, yeah. They taught me a thing or two, as well . . . .like how to speak properly.
Thank you, students. It was SO fun!

First, things first. In the classroom . . . . . Then we hit the road.
