"Tumpisa Dreamer" "Tumpisa Dreamer" is a one of a kind piece made of sterling silver, Death Valley Paint Rock, turquoise and copper. This stone evokes the desolate splendor or the desert and canyon landscapes. Instead of a highly polished finish it has a satin finish like that of a river washed rock. The image that inspired the mask on this dreamer is called the Thirsty Mask and was painted using red ochre at Hueco Tanks, Texas. Since the stone came from Death Valley I wanted this dreamer to have a name that would echo its landscape like beauty. Tumpisa is from the Timbisha language which is the language of the Native American people who have inhabited the region in and around Death Valley, California since late prehistoric times. Until the last decade of the twentieth century, the people called themselves and their language "Shoshone". The tribe then achieved Federal recognition under the name "Timbisha". This is an Anglicized spelling of the native name of Death Valley, tumpisa, which means "rock paint" and refers to red ochre in the valley. Necklace ...$450.00 Pendant is 2 1/2" tall This stone was purchased from the Heart of Stone Studio. |
